Tingi woon by sy ouma.

Tingi lived with his grandmother.

Tingi aaleikala na banakulu.


Hy het altyd saam met haar die koeie opgepas.

He used to look after the cows with her.

Aaleafwa banakulu ukucema iŋombe.


Eendag het soldate gekom.

One day the soldiers came.

Ubushiku bumo abashilika balishile.


Hulle het die koeie weggevat.

They took the cows away.

Baasendele iŋombe no kuya nasho.


Tingi en sy ouma het weggehardloop en gaan wegkruip.

Tingi and his grandmother ran away and hid.

Tingi na banakulu baalibutwike babelama.


Hulle het in die bosse weggekruip tot donker.

They hid in the bush until night.

Baabeleme mu mpanga mpaka bwaila.


Net toe het die soldate teruggekom.

Then the soldiers came back.

Grandmother hid Tingi under the leaves.
