Tsiku lina, amai anatenga zipatso zambiri.

One day, mama got a lot of fruit.

Ubushiku bumo bamaayo balikwete ifisabo ifingi.


“Ndipotani tingakhale ndi zipatso?” Tifunsa. “Tidzadya zipatso usiku walero” Anatero amai.

“When can we have some fruit?” we ask. “We will have the fruit tonight,” says mama.

Twaipusha ati, “Ni nshitanshi twalalyapo ifitwalo?” Bamaayo abati, “Tuleelya ifitwalo ubushiku.”


M’bale wanga Rahim ndi ozikonda. Alawa zipatso zonse. Adya ziphaso zambiri.

My brother Rahim is greedy. He tastes all the fruit. He eats a lot of it.

Ndume yandi Rahim alifunuka. Alyako ku fitwalo fyonse. Aalya ifingi.


“Onani zimene Rahim anacita!” Anafuula m’bale wanga wamg’ono. “Rahim ndiwamakani ndiponso ozikonda” Nditero.

“Look at what Rahim did!” shouts my little brother. “Rahim is naughty and selfish,” I say.

“Moneni ifyo Rahim acitile,” efyapundile kandume yandi. Nayasuka nati, “Rahim toomfwa kabili aliitemwa.”


Amai ndiokalipa cifukwa ca Rahim.

Mother is angry with Rahim.

Bamaayo naabamufulilwa saana Rahim.


Naifenso ndife okwiya cifukwa ca Rahim. Koma Rahim sapepesa.

We are also angry with Rahim. But Rahim is not sorry.

Na ifwe bonse naatumufulilwa Rahim. Nomba Rahim tasakamene.


“Kodi simuzamupatsa cirango?” Afunsa m’bale wamng’ono.

“Aren’t you going to punish Rahim?” asks little brother.

Akaice kandi kaipusha akati, “Bushe tamwamukande Rahim?”


“Rahim, posacedwa apa, uzacita cisoni,” amucenjeza amai.

“Rahim, soon you will be sorry,” warns mama.

Bamaayo bamusoka ati, “Rahim caalakubipila nombaline.”


Rahim wayamba kumva kudwala.

Rahim starts to feel sick.

Rahim atampa ukuumfwa ukulwala.


“M’mimba mwanga mwayamba kuwawa” anong’oza Rahim.

“My tummy is so sore,” whispers Rahim.

Rahim atootoosha ati, “Ulufumo lwandi lwalakalipa.”


Amai anadziwa kuti izi zidzacitika. Cipatso cimupatsa cirango Rahim!

Mama knew this would happen. The fruit is punishing Rahim!

Bamaayo baalishibe ukuti ifi efyali no kucitika. Ifitwalo filekanda Rahim.


Pambuyo pake, Rahim apepesa kwa ife. “Sindidzakhalanso wazikonda tere,”. Alonjeza. Ndipo timukhulupirira tonse.

Later, Rahim says sorry to us. “I will never be so greedy again,” he promises. And we all believe him.

Panuma, Rahim alomba ubwelelo kuli ifwe. Alaya ati, “Nshakafunuke na kabili.” Bonse twamusuminisha. Takabwekeshepo icimusango cakuitemwa.
