Ifuku dimu, mama wasendeli nyikabu yayivulu nankashi.

One day, mama got a lot of fruit.

Ubushiku bumo bamaayo balikwete ifisabo ifingi.


“Tukadaku nyikabu ifukwinyi?” twehwili. “Tukuda nyikabu wufuku,” nindi mama.

“When can we have some fruit?” we ask. “We will have the fruit tonight,” says mama.

Twaipusha ati, “Ni nshitanshi twalalyapo ifitwalo?” Bamaayo abati, “Tuleelya ifitwalo ubushiku.”


Manakwami Rahim wachifwa. Watompan’ga nyikabu yezhima. Wadan’ga yayivulu.

My brother Rahim is greedy. He tastes all the fruit. He eats a lot of it.

Ndume yandi Rahim alifunuka. Alyako ku fitwalo fyonse. Aalya ifingi.


“Tala zheliliyi Rahim!” manakwami wamunyanya wabidikili. “Rahim wamanya na chifwa,” nahoshi.

“Look at what Rahim did!” shouts my little brother. “Rahim is naughty and selfish,” I say.

“Moneni ifyo Rahim acitile,” efyapundile kandume yandi. Nayasuka nati, “Rahim toomfwa kabili aliitemwa.”


Mama nahili na Rahim.

Mother is angry with Rahim.

Bamaayo naabamufulilwa saana Rahim.


Tunataminini na Rahim ilan’ga Rahim koti kudanakena.

We are also angry with Rahim. But Rahim is not sorry.

Na ifwe bonse naatumufulilwa Rahim. Nomba Rahim tasakamene.


“Hiwukubabesha Rahim wanyi?” manakwami wamunyanya wehwili.

“Aren’t you going to punish Rahim?” asks little brother.

Akaice kandi kaipusha akati, “Bushe tamwamukande Rahim?”


“Rahim, ken’ga wukudanakena,” mama wamulezheli

“Rahim, soon you will be sorry,” warns mama.

Bamaayo bamusoka ati, “Rahim caalakubipila nombaline.”


Rahim watachikili kutiya kukata.

Rahim starts to feel sick.

Rahim atampa ukuumfwa ukulwala.


“mwivumu dami mudi yilonda,” nindi Rahim.

“My tummy is so sore,” whispers Rahim.

Rahim atootoosha ati, “Ulufumo lwandi lwalakalipa.”


Mama welikili nindi izhi zhikumwekana. Mukabu wunakubabesha Rahim!

Mama knew this would happen. The fruit is punishing Rahim!

Bamaayo baalishibe ukuti ifi efyali no kucitika. Ifitwalo filekanda Rahim.


Chihahitili kapinji, Rahim wadanakeneni kudi etu. “Hinikamba kekala na chifwa chen’giku,” wadishikili. Kaha nawa twamukuhweleleli.

Later, Rahim says sorry to us. “I will never be so greedy again,” he promises. And we all believe him.

Panuma, Rahim alomba ubwelelo kuli ifwe. Alaya ati, “Nshakafunuke na kabili.” Bonse twamusuminisha. Takabwekeshepo icimusango cakuitemwa.
