I peel the potatoes.

Mpala Imfyumbu.

Napumanga kabici.

I chop a cabbage.

Mputaula kabeci.

Na pumanga ma kaloti.

I grate the carrots.

Nseesa kalota.

Natapisanga manawa.

I wash the beans.

Nsamfya cilemba.

Na pumanga mbata ya ndongo.

I cut the butternut.

Mputula utupushi.

Napumanga muloho wobizwa sipinaci.

I chop the spinach.

Mputula shipinaci.

Boma bapumanga nyanisi.

My mom chops the onions.

Bamaayo baputula onyoni.

Nyanisi yani lilisanga haipumiwa.

Onions make me cry when they are chopped.

Onyoni ilalenga ukuti nalila ifilamba nga ileputulwa.
